1200 Calorie Diabetic Diets And Low-carb Diet Food

A 1200 calorie diabetic diet means eating no more than 1200 calories of food every day. IF you need to control your blood sugar, such as is the case with diabetics, then you may need this diet to lower your risk of developing heart problems.

The amount of glucose, or simple sugar, that's in your blood is called "Blood Sugar". Since glucose is the main source of energy for your body; and glucose comes from dietary carbohydrates. A diabetic diet limits how much carbohydrate (kar-bo-hi-drate), fat, and protein you eat. Low-carb diet food is part of a 1200 calorie diet, which is low in both calories and fat.

Low fat diet plans, supplemented with enough high-GLA (gamma linoleic acid) oils such as Olive or Flax Oil to supplement your body's oil needs, coupled with low carb diet foods and protein drinks will help you maintain energy levels, and keep blood sugar constant.

A sample of a 1200 calorie diet is listed below. If you learn what foods you can exchange, you can trade one food with another from the same food group.

Bread shouldn't be white bread, it should have large grains in it. Those grains should be large enough to see. That's what whole-grain bread MEANS. Cheap whole grain bread, therefore, isn't really whole grain at all. Unless it's rather course-textured, it's not whole grain bread.

Second, cereal doesn't mean "Cheerios" or any other kind of processed cereal. Such cereal grains that are good for you would be things like Kashi, Triticale, Whole Oats, Barley, Whole Wheat Berries, Cracked Corn, Wheat Bran, Bran Flakes, Rye or Cream of Wheat.

Fruit juices should be freshly squeezed, not from concentrate, no sugar added and no artificial sugars added. You should water them down with filtered water half-and-half so they aren't so sugary.

Buttermilk is better for your digestion than whole milk is. Organic milk is healthier for you.


SAMPLE 1200 CALORIE RECIPES AND MENU:

Breakfast:

1 bread or starch, such as 3/4 cup (6 ounces) bran flakes
1 fruit, such as 1 small banana (5 inch) or 1/2 of a 9 inch banana
1 milk, such as 1 cup skim or 1% milk
1 meat or meat substitute, such as 1/4 cup cottage cheese or 1 poached egg


Lunch:

The following can be combined to make 1/2 sandwich:
2 ounces meat or protein, such as 1/2 cup drained water-packed tuna
1 fat, such as 1 tsp regular or 2 tsp lowfat mayonnaise
1/2 vegetable, such as 1/2 cup chopped celery
1 vegetable, such as 2 tomato slices
1 free vegetable, such as 1 lettuce leaf on a sandwich
1 bread or starch, such as 1 slice bread

Add the following foods for lunch:

1 fruit, such as 1 medium orange
1 free food, such as 1 can (12 ounces) diet soda

Dinner:

2 ounces meat or protein, such as 2 ounces lean chicken breast
1 starch, such as 1/2 cup cooked pasta
1 fat, such as 1 tsp margarine
1 vegetable, such as 1 cup steamed broccoli
1 fruit, such as 1-1/4 cup melon (watermelon or cantaloupe) cubes
1 milk, such as 1 cup skim milk

Evening Snack:

1 bread, such as 3 (2-1/2 inch) squares graham crackers


To keep a Diabetic Diet that Will Work for You, you should eat often, limit sweets, carbohydrates and fats, eat lots of whole grains, veggies and fruits and limit alcohol consumption.

If you stay on a diabetic diet, you'll reduce your reliance on medications, which can also be dangerous to your health. However, there's far more risk associated with not taking diabetes medication, so what they tell you to take, make sure you take it.

A diet for diabetics is there to help you get more free than you were before.

When you consider a diet appropriate for Type 2 Diabetes, the focus is on fiber. Also, you must reduce the impact of sugar to your bloodstream by limiting sweets and eating more fresh fruits and vegetables. Since type 2 isn't as severe, you might be on a less restrictive diet, so listen to your physician's suggestions.

You might find that a diabetic diet includes foods you're already used to eating. Just with a few minor rearrangements and adjustments, you might be able to keep having some of your favorite things.

As a desert, use fruit. Don't put butter on your vegetables. Since heart disease is a big factor with those with diabetes, all butter and margarine should be replaced with such oils as expeller pressed extra virgin olive oil, flax oil or the slightly nutty taste of hemp oil.
